On-going studies concerning the consequences of the fattening process
Several research initiatives
Until 1995, no scientific facts were available to measure the consequences of fattening among web-footed birds. For the past fifteen years, several studies have been carried out by quite a lot of specialists and researchers from different French institutions and associations.
Even so additional research will be necessary to consolidate today’s facts and data, all the results we found do not justify – and by no means – the strong criticism and disapproval which is commonly associated with foie gras production.
Currently, some research initiatives are being carried out within several areas, such as:
- Genetic adaptation of web-footed birds;
- Reducing disposals to protect the environment;
- Optimising livestock’s and housing’s condition.
Therefore, these results will contribute to continuously improve the web-footed bird’s production conditions.
