A cultural and culinary heritage product

Vividly integrated within the French culture

Several historic studies have revealed how much foie gras has firmly become rooted in  French culture as the years have gone by.

An inventory of all French culinary heritage products was carried out by the Centre National des Arts Culinaires (the French Centre for the culinary arts), created in 1989, citing foie gras for the Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées regions (Southwest of France).

As a result of the long-lasting history between France and Foie Gras, and of all the culinary creations this food has inspired, foie gras was acknowledged in 2006 as an official cultural and culinary heritage product of France.

Article 645-27-1 of the rural code and the January 5th 2006 agricultural orientation law officialised this recognition by attributing a protected label to this food.

A recognition for all professionals

For the thousands men and women involved in the industry, this unique distinction also symbolises a genuine recognition of their professional know-how and their role within rural cultural life.
